TOPO(s) & TEXTURE

The series TOPOS & TEXTURE began in 2016 and is an ongoing project. TOPOS & TEXTURE features small works that vary in size but rarely exceed 100 square inches. This series focuses on play, material exploration, and chance. Dildilian's practice covers a wide range of topics, including socio-economics issues, politics, and human connections, but TOPOS & TEXTURE serves as a creative break. While working on one or two large pieces, she simultaneously creates this small series of paintings, which are completely experimental and fun. This process is a critical part of Dildilian's artistic practice.

TOPOS & TEXTURE often complements many of Dildilian's other series. Sometimes this is intentional, while other times these relationships form organically when planning for an exhibition or working in the studio. The name TOPOS & TEXTURE is derived from topography and textures. Using visual information from walks, landscapes, books, art historical references, and digital sources, Dildilian discovers and plays with interesting shapes, colors, materials, and textures in this body of work.
